How does bragging deny the truth
In fact, in Philippians , we are commanded not to be haughty and highminded, rather Even though the Bible clearly proves "boasting" or "bragging" upon one's self is a SIN, modern Fundamentalism has become nothing more than a "Bragger's Club," in which many ministers and laymen are given over completely to bragging upon their "numbers" within their congregation or within their denominational affiliation. As I study the scriptures, I see time and again that this is something God hates.
For he wishes people to trust Him and brag upon Him, rather than bragging upon themselves and their own strength. One case in point will suffice to prove this. In 1 Chronicles , we read of King David, and how Satan provoked David to want to number Israel, so he could boast of his army. Even Joab, David's evil captain of the guard was against this, but he obeyed.
What happened? God got so angry with David's wanting to "number" his host, that God came to him and told him that he was going to judge David and take out his wrath on Israel. David responds in vs 17, " Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? God doesn't want us to brag upon our numbers and how many we are. He wants us to focus on Him and how great He is! James chapter four and verses even tell us: " For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. Did you catch that? To boast of your own strength and rejoice in your boastings is EVIL! Yet modern Fundamentalists do just that, rejoicing in their movements, their numbers, and their small kingdoms which they have built. They have become nothing less than modern day Pharisees who continually brag upon themselves, their ministries, their programs, etc. But, what's wrong with just simply bragging on Jesus, and boasting about what He's done?
The idea is that the successful person is the one who knows what they want, and gets it in the end. That's a common enough approach that it just seems natural to most of us. The problem, of course, is that such an approach to life is usually built on envy: "I want what they have. Most of the New Testament writers warn against this worldly approach to life.
There the results were present; here, future. As "sowing in peace" compare " sown in dishonor," 1 Corinthians produces the "fruit of righteousness," so conversely "the work" and "effect of righteousness" is "peace. Those truly wise towards God, while peaceable and tolerant towards their neighbors, yet make it their chief concern to sow righteousness, not cloaking men's sins, but reproving them with such peaceable moderation as to be the physicians, rather than the executioners, of sinners [CALVIN].

That same urge I felt to look put together is felt by Christians all the time on social media. Have the courage to be real. Share the photos of crying kids. Laugh at your own cooking fail. While you might not look perfect, you will be honest.
And as an ambassador for truth, being trustworthy is more valuable than being attractive. There are dangers on two sides here. The first is from false teachers. The other side actually comes from seemingly conservative Christian bloggers and news sources.
They will travail the moral failings of our world, but teach legalism without grace. There are a lot of inspirational quotes out there that actually contradict scripture.
But the Bible actually says the opposite. This is nothing more than grade-school manipulation so people can get more likes on their posts. Now, when we read the Gospels, we see Christ using severe language with some people, but note He is only harsh with the self-righteous.
With the lost, the prostitutes, the tax-collectors, He is gracious. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. If someone shares a post, video or article I disagree with, I try to never attack the person. First, ask clarifying questions. Try to get a clear reason why the person believes what they believe. Then respectfully share why you disagree with their belief.
